I've just printed out a family tree for someone and it's 45 pages - a lot of taping to be done! Is there a way I can shrink the tree down to show the same info but on a smaller amount of sheets? I've already moved the grid around to make it three pages high as opposed to four pages.

Regards, Martin.

You can right click on the corners to zoom the chart on the page, just remember the text will get smaller.

You can also sometimes move a few boxes around to compress the chart that way.

For example below I have staggered the final descendant line to reduce the width.

Thanks Jane, I understand it now.

When I printed out a massive tree for a family meeting (described in another tread) I managed to get the diagram down from about 45 pages to 30 pages.

First I reduced the whole thing to 75% of the original. Any less than this and the print is too samll for a display diagram.

Secondly (as Jane says) I moved bits of the tree around to save space. In particular, with families with a lot of children, I staggered them so they moved closer together by moving alternate children down a bit. This saves a lot of space. Admittedly it means that all the generation is not lined up exactly but everyone agreed that the result was still understandable. I made the connecting lines a bit thicker too which helped the understanding.

Using Jane's method I reduced a 15 x 3 tree (45 pages) to a 10 x 2 (20 pages) tree with ease.

This is one thing I still cannot get my head around. I've read the FH help, adjusted PDF page sizes, grabbed corners, everything ...
All I want to do is shrink my (very wide) diagram to that it will fit to the maximum PDF size, so that I can print it off on a roll of paper on a large format inkjet printer!
Surely a simple 'shrink to fit' or 'create banner chart' can be provided... I should not have to resort to third party software such as Family Tree Factory to achieve this!
