Data validation

Post by alkyl » 12 Nov 2009 12:59

Using the same .GED data file the Ahnenblat program finds more legit. validation problems than FHv4.  Is there scope to increase the validation checks to include obvious mis-typing errors such as: Birth of child before mother/father, age differences between siblings of greater than x years, age differences between spouses greater than y years (Anna Nicole Smith notwithstanding.

Data validation

Wish-List item 36 'Data validation on entry (e.g. to detect unlikely dates, etc.)' was implemented in version 2.2, and may have only prevented entry of non-existent dates, i.e. not allowed within the current (Gregorian) calendar.  FH does also already warn about some unlikely or impossible dates, e.g. death before birth, or death more than 100 years after birth.  But there does not seem to be any check for e.g. birth before birth of parent.

Wish-List item 154 'Date Validation on the File, Validate option' is still 'live' but appears to apply only to the stated option, not to live data entry.  It would also be useful to have some preferences so that users could fine-tune the parameters used for such date checking.
