Occupations

Post by benclark » 11 Nov 2009 14:11

I was entering my own occupations in the order I did them, ie during school, first 'real' job and then my current career, the same as I enter any event that occurs in order.

Problem is even though I enter the date for each one it does not display my current occupation on the Main tab and if I change that to my current occupation then it just writes over the first occupation I entered. I don't enter the Age as FH works that out for you, although I have tried to see if that affects this and sadly it doesn't. Any ideas?

Don't use the Details tab to edit them, on V3 it always shows the first one.

Use the Facts tab to edit the one you want.

On diagrams and on the V4 property box customisation, you can use INDI.OCCU[last] to get the last occupation.

There is a wish list item for preferred attributes to be able to be set so vote for it if you want it.

Thanks for that Jane, I've created a customs Sex & Occupation now and it works perfectly, thank you. Where can I find the wish list?

Unrelated to my previous question Jane but my Grandfather married my Grandmother who already had 1 child from a previous relationship. They then went on to have 4 children of thier own and he adopted her child, how can I show this in FH? Creating a new child in their relationship and linking it to the existing record does it but when you set the status to adopted it makes it look like they both adopted her. Thanks, Ben

What you would normally do, is add the child on a different family tab for the Mother. If you want to add the child to the second family on the relationship select more options and tick the box to set relationship separately for each Parent.

Thanks Jane, got to work out which option I like the most now lol, still got to figure out what I'm going to do with my grandmother, as she was fostered from birth and has no idea who her real parents are, I've found the records to get her birth certificate but I don't know whether to research both lines or not and like this how to display it lol

Thanks for your help, thought I knew this program pretty well, guess I was wrong :P

The V3 equivalent of the V4 'Facts' tab is the 'Events' tab.

David you can't customise the V3 property box, so the trick won't work if you are still on V3, you just need to edit via the Events Tab.

As Jane pointed out above, in V3 the Main tab of the Property box always shows only the first Occupation.  It is only in V4 that the Property box can be customized to show, e.g. INDI.OCCU[last].
