First time to try a query

Post by wulliam » 08 Nov 2009 12:59

I'm a novice with FH4 - and I want to try my first query.
I've set up a flag called 'Direct' and want to find all individuals who have that flag AND have an entry under the 'Notes' tab.

Could somebody tell me how to set about it??

Thanks!
William

First time to try a query

If you haven't already, you will probably find it helpful to work through chapters 13 and 14 of Getting the Most From Family Historian 4 available via the Help menu.
You should probably add columns for your Flag and for (Local) Note and Note Record (both of which appear on the Notes tab).
Filters (on the Query Rows tab) are always a bit trickier to start with.  I suggest the following three:

Add unless Note Record is null [to include all Individuals with a linked Note Record, if any]
Add unless Note is null [to include all Individuals with a Local Note, if any]
Exclude unless Flag Direct is set [to leave out Individuals without the Direct Flag]

I hope this helps.

Thanks Peter!
Hopefully I'll have time to try this over the next couple of days!
