Adding Custom Event/Attribute

Post by rfj1001 » 31 Oct 2009 17:08

I'd like to be able to create a new event/attribute to record a voyage. So the info to capture would be very similar to that for emigration.

Is there a way that can be done. (At the moment I've created an attribute/event for a voyage but it does not have the required fields.)

Thanks

Adding Custom Event/Attribute

Hi Robin
I have been trying to solve this problem for a while now. The problem is that the Emigration event is a special one in that it contains two locations i.e. from and to. I have been unable to create a single fact set that replicates this. My work round has been to create 'sailed from' and 'flew from' fact sets and a 'disembarked' fact set. I use these in pairs for each journey, a bonus of using this method is that you can input the actual dates and or times of each event, so recording the duration of the journey.

I second Malcolms approach :) It also allows you to record if someone set sail but never arrived (e.g. if they died en-route) or if there is no proof they arrived or you don't know where they set out from.
