Reusing Source Record Ids

Post by simonx » 23 Sep 2009 10:42

I deleted a few sources in the early days and now I have gaps. (I know better now and change the name of an obsolete source to XXX and reuse it later, or I use the merge source technique I spotted in this forum.)  Is there a way of reusing the missing numbers. Trivial, I know, but it bugs me.

Reusing Source Record Ids

The numbers don't really matter, unless you are using them outside of FH to organise your filing of originals, just use the renumber tool in the Work With Record Identifiers to renumber all your sources.

Personally I never do this as missing numbers do not cause any problems or waste any space.

Reusing Source Record Ids

I have just noticed this posting. It would be disasterous to reuse seemingly redundant recordIDs. If for some reason you had referred to a person by their ID somewhere you would find that they would suddenly become someone else rather than alerting you to the fact that the record was deleted.
