Is it possible to have a column in the Records Window that shows the Generation Number to the File Root? If it is could some kind person please give me the Data Reference/Expression or an idiots guide of how to do it?
I have tried Configure Columns...Load from Query...All Individuals (custom), but the Generation Column shows zero for everyone (it shows correctly in the Query Window so I am obviously doing something wrong).
Thank you

Hi Carol,
Yes you can show the generation number respective to the File Root.
The easiest way of doing so is :
a. Right click on the column header and select Configure Columns ..
b. Select one of the possible column headers from the left side and copy it to the right side using the button in the centre,
c. on the right side select the new column that you added in step b. and click the edit button that is then highlighted,
d. in the 'Edit Column details' box, change the 'Heading' to Gen (your choice),
e. copy and paste this code into the expression box -> =Relationcode(FileRoot(),,GENERATION,1) .
This will give a Negative number for the number of generations for Ancestors and a positive number for Descendants. To reverse this use this code -> =Relationcode(,FileRoot(),GENERATION,1) .
Hope this helps.

Apologies,
I forgot to mention in my previous post that persons who are not related to the File Root will not have a number in the Gen column and those who are related and of the same generation will have a zero.

Hi Bilko
That works perfectly, thank you for such clear instructions, I just can't get my head around these data references.
