Update to version 4

I have just opened Family Historian and a message came up to say there was update to version 4, (02 I think). I downloaded the update and then ran it as it said. An error message came up and gave me 3 alternatives retry, abort or ignore (not recommended) so I retried but still the same message, so I abhorted. I then loaded the ordinary Family Historian again but it now does not load at all but error message comes up which says 'Error in installation.Please reinstall'. I try but still nothing. So not only could I not install the upgrade but now I can't load the Family Historian. Help please!!!

Can you try simply installing the original Family Historian (trial or CD) over the top, this should repair your installation.
Do you remember what file the Retry was on?

I have the original Version 3 with the update disc for version 4. Should I install both? Sorry I didn't see what file. The only extra bit of information was that I had Family Historian open when I first tried to run the update, but I closed it before I tried the second run. Would this have made any difference?

Try using the V4 upgrade first and see if that will fix it, if not you might need to un-install and then install V3 then V4.

Thanks for your help. I have just re-installed the version 4 disc and everything seems ok.

Great. If you want to try again with 4.0.2, please try downloading it manually from
http://www.fhug.org.uk/calico/upgrade_fh4_to_4.0.2.exe
and triple check FH is not running when you start the upgrade.
