How to group pictures with a note?
Is there a way to create a Note combined with a selection of MultiMedia records/links? (in GEDCOM terms the equivalent of an OBJE record with multiple files and a NOTE link)?

How to group pictures with a note?
... I should clarify ... I can link multimedia files to a Note but then I can't seem to display the multimedia files when I view the Note or show the Note when I view any of the multimedia files

Just click on Note in the links box middle left and the note will appear below in the Note box.
If you are attaching Note Records, rather than normal notes, use the property box to open the note by going to the all tab, and double clicking on the note record.

How to group pictures with a note?
Hiya Jane,
If I use the Note/Link feature of the multimedia files I can't then re-use the note between different multimedia files - unless I'm doing it wrong?
So doing the second option but this will only show for one of the multimedia files ... what I was really after was a view of the note with all the multimedia files attached to it (ie like the GEDCOM standard OBJE record is designed to do)?

As I said you will need to use the Property Box to view linked Note Records.

Er ... I am using the property box ... but it's only available for a single multimedia file at a time (so I can't see the collection of files with the note)
... and the property box for the Note has no tab for multimedia and even if I try to create a bespoke one there is no way of creating a bespoke field to show the multimedia
but please correct me if I'm wrong!

I was going the other way, from the media to notes, which you can do as I explained.
I have never found a good reason to attach media to notes or note records to media, perhaps someone else can work out a way.

Hehe we obviously have quite different methods of researching .... I use this sort of thing to collect together a number of files into a group with a description e.g. I have a load of documents about a particular school - I create a note where I can describe the school and give its history and other interesting facts and then add the multimedia files to illustrate it. I can then link the note to the EDUC event for people who went to that school and it provides a nice packaged illustration without having to retype or re-link all the details.

It is a limitation of the GEDCOM standard (with which FH very sensibly complies as closely as possible) rather than of FH per se which means that you cannot attach Multimedia objects to a Note record; (see http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ ... OTE_RECORD). As you can see (in the standard documentation) just below the Note record structure, the structure for a Source record has more flexibility.
A possible workaround would be to use a Source record as the top level for your descriptive document. Your text could then be in one or more Note records linked to that Source, and you can link any number of Multimedia objects to the Source. You can then attach the Source to as many records and fields as appropriate, e.g. an Event field for an Individual (such as Education). There is even a standard FH report (Source Summary Report) which could then show everything. It is also possible to see multiple pictures in the Multimedia screen at the same time as the Property Box for the relevant Note record on which you edit your text. I hope this may help.

Thanks for the top Peter ... I guess it is a workaround tho' I'm a bit loathe to abuse my source records and it won't work with the (non-FH) software I use to publish my tree.
You're right in that GEDCOM standard doesn't allow Notes to have multimedia but it does support the link the other way round (ie multimedia records can have notes linked to them or notes embedded within them) ... All you need to do then is reverse the link (ie find all notes linked to a multimedia record) and you effectively get a note with a group of files ...
Unfortunately because FH multimedia records are so non-standard and don't allow multiple files it won't work in FH
Maybe the next version?
