Thanks a lot for taking the trouble over that Peter. I'll give it a go once more.

I too appreciate you trying to resolve this query, unfortunately I have copied your data, in fact copied and pasted them without the %% signs but the error message is not that the FIELD is being deleted but that 1 RECORD (record type 'Source') will be deleted.
Seems version 4 is needed not 3.
thanks again

Deleting source citations
Crys,
Does the query in version 3 show the Source and the Source Citation columns differently (with the Source having the little scroll at the left), as in my version 4 example? And do you get the same warning message about record rather than field whichever column you select for the delete? If so, it would appear to be a limitation of version 3 that has been fixed in version 4 (which I would personally strongly recommend anyway).

Me again Peter, I've tried this and don't get any scroll. My error message reads the same for both columns, it w ants to delete a Record not a field.
When I have got used to all the things Im still learning in V3 I'll have to upgrade to V4.
Thanks for trying

Sorry for the delay in replying Peter, been offline for a few days.
Yes I have two columns, one with and one without a scroll, produced by the > at the end of the expression but on deleting either entry the message is the same - that the cell represents actual records, not data within records and that one record - type Source, would be deleted.
Must be something different with FH3 to 4.
Will have to leave this or do things the long way.
