Installing on a netbook

Got a netbook and installing via portable cd drive by discs   (1) version 2 (2) Version 3 upgrade  (3) Version 4 upgrade.   Everything works well untill after putting in key for version 4 then select folder and install. Then i am informed it can not install.  Anyone had anything simiilar??? So it appears that up to version 3 no problem.[cry][cry]

Not tried on a Netbook, as I only have a laptop, I might be tempted to copy the files locally on to the Netbook and try the upgrade again.

Also check your disk space, if you have a solid state drive they are really rather small.

Thanks Jane but alas have copied files on to hard drive and no install (Hard drive is not solid state) It comes with error 123 The filename,directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect.    Unable to create directory (Perhaps characters too long for file???)

Are you in the process if creating a Project?

If so try a really short name for the project title, it might be the way your hard drive is formatted, which may limit the project folder name length.

Thanks Jane have set the drive as 1 rather than normal partition. Will try and reformat again with partition and try again.

Have formatted drive to two partitions and reinstalled the software and agaian all goes well untill i try to install version 4. I recieve the same message. Any Ideas anyone????

Please can you detail exactly how far in you are getting.

If you are getting to the point where it asks for an install directory, could you try picking a different directory for the install.

Also what OS is your netbook using?

acer netbook 160gb drive with 512mb ddr2memory  Originally with linux but have reformated(NTFS) and placed xp on it. Hard drive partitioned 600mb one part and 150+ gb.   Installing of other  software ok. Family Historian went as follows Disc version 2 ok Upgrade to version 3 ok Version 4 after keying in serial and selecting either the family historian folder or one of the others available it proceeds to install then informs me it cannot with error 123 the filename,directory name or volume labelsyntax is incorrect. Hello Jane have just read your link and downloaded and run the file and installed the version 4 upgrade successfully!!! Fantastic and thank you very much for your time and patience.
