I'm not sure if this is a minor bug or the result of an incorrect FH setting but when the properties window is displayed it is in the incorrect location - see image below. If I minimise the FH window and then restore it the properties window goes, correctly, to the right hand side of the screen.

I can't reproduce this. Have you tried floating the property box and re-docking it?
Does this happen all the time and if so how do you cause it?

Jane,
It happens on the first display of the properties box on each execution of FH. If I float the box as you suggest and then dock it then it is put in the correct position.
This is not a major issue but thought I would point out the 'bug'.

Bill

Jane,
Just realised that if I close the poperties box and then redisplay it then the box is, once again, in the incorrect position. Is there an options setting that might cause this?
regards,
Bill

Also are you on 4.0.2? If not it might be worth upgrading.

Jane,
There was a difference between my settings and yours in that mine had 'Move it to preferred position' for the 'Property Box action...' for the Focus Window.
Hence what I am seeing may be what it is supposed to do! Anyway, I have changed the options to match yours which 'solves' the issue for me.
I am on 4.0.2 by the way.
Thanks for your help.
regards,
Bill

I suspect not, I'll flag this one for Calico as I still can't get my system to do it.

Jane,
For info, this problem has not gone away and I seem to be finding more ways to cause it!
Not only is the problem evident when starting up FH but I can cause it to happen (every time) by closing the properties box whilst in the focus window, switching to the 'individual records' window and back to the 'focus window' - the properties box is now displayed in the middle of the screen instead of on the right hand side.
If I minimise the FH wndow and then restore it the properties box is placed in it's correct position.
It's clearly not a major issue but it is annoying!
regards,
Bill

Jane,
Just realised that all I have to do to cause the problem is to switch between focus window and individual records window - and back to focus window - and the properties box is now in the middle of the screen!

I did pass it over to Calico, but there has not been a patch release yet, is it happening even when your settings are the same as the ones I suggested previously?

I have had a go at reproducing this, but so far have been unable to do so whatever options I choose for the Property Box. Can I suggest that you open Preferences (last option on the Tools menu) and then choose the Property Box tab and click the Installation Settings button. Then press OK to save changes. Does the problem still occur after you've done that?

Simon,
I've just done that (i.e. reset the properties box preferences to installation settings) but to no avail.
I've been a bit rash and pre-ordered Windows 7. I'll let you know if I still get the problem when I do a full reinstall after loading the new OS.
regards,
Bill

Just to add to Jane's comments, I got the full Windows 7 product in early August through work (it was released to Volume Licence customers early). It is excellent, and runs really smoothly. No problems at all so far (though to be honest I had no problens with Vista either).

I have just upgraded my PC to Windows 7 and reinstalled all software. I'm pleased to report that the problem that I was having with the properties box being in the incorrect position has 'gone away'.
Thanks for all the advice.
By the way, so far, I'm very pleased with Windows 7.
