Whats a license name?

Post by SteveInKent » 27 May 2009 17:59

I have been using the trial of v4.0 an was so impressed I ordered the boxed version of 4.0 which arrived today.

However, I am asked to enter a licence name and a registration key.

The box contains a registration key but no mention fo a license name. What is one of those?

I hope someone can help..this is very disappointing.

I would have thought it was your own name so that the software can be identified to you. However, you may want to try Family Historian support at:

Thanks Gerry.

But I tried that. And it didn't like it.

I will give that email a go. Hope they respond as my trial just ended

The license name should be the same name you used to order the software. For instance if you order direct from Calico Pie, the name is the name you enter into Kagi's web site.

I ordered it from a shop in UK called S&N Genealogy supplies.
They didn't give any such name .I just called them and they didn't know what to do.

I can't be the only one with this problem. Surely other people have got it from other sources other than the manufacturer.

I think its something to do with when I first installed the trial. Maybe it asked me for a name to use. I dont recall it doing so though[cry]

Just a thought: Have you tried uninstalling the trial before installing the full version?

Yeah its a case of installing the Boxed set one over the trial, or uninstalling the trial. I just heard from Calico just now.

Should be resolved!

well not in my case. Just tried to install the v4 on a brand new Win7 x64 and it simply refuses everything.

I do wonder since I did install it on XP x86 without problems when it hit the market. And since not having purchased an update but the full v4 version, I really wonder why my new windows doesn't like the licence key on it' own.

It installed with no problems for me on Windows 7 64 bit.

Make sure you run the install as an Administrator (try right clicking on the setup.exe and selecting Run as Administrator to be sure).

If this doesn't work can you explain exactly what you mean by 'it simply refuses everything' (i.e. at what stage does it fail to work).

I have V4 full version working just fine on Windows 7 x64, it far more likely to be an issue with your Anti Virus or security program.

Remember if you have download version you need to use the User Name and Key and if you purchased a CD version you must install from the CD and enter the license and not try and use the download trial and a CD license.
