What OS are you using?
If you are on XP/Vista then double check you have not un-installed Family Historian Nova PDF support from the Programs Control panel.Family Historian's support for PDF File output is only enabled if you have Windows 2000, or a later version of Windows, such as Windows XP or Vista. That is, PDF File output does not work, and is not enabled, if you have Windows 98 or ME.

I'm using XP, but I've solved the problem by reinstalling FH. I don't know how it became corrupted, but the Family Historian PDF Printer wasn't available either. It is now. Thanks for trying to help.

Hi Jane,
I've just read your earlier reply (May '09) to a post entiltled
'PDF Format not enabled'.
I'm getting a similar message in FH v4.2 that tells me that 'PDF File Output is not enabled'.
I note your response 'If you are on XP/Vista then double check you have not un-installed Family Historian Nova PDF support from the Programs Control panel'.
Can you run this by me again please as I cannot find any reference/links to FH Nova PDF on my machine.
Regards
Tony

FH implements PDF support by installing a 'fake' printer. This 'printer' pretends to be a printer, but actually converts the output into a PDF file. The PDF output is not within FH (as many other programs implement it).
To find the NovaPDF open up Window's control panel (not 'programs' which implies FH's own which doesn't exist) Control Panel by clicking the Start button then selecting 'Control Panel' in the right hand column. In the control panel, select 'Printers and other hardware' and then 'View installed printers'. Selecting this will then show the installed printers. NovaPDF will be one of these and labelled as 'Family Historian PDF File'. If it doesn't re-install FH4. I hope this helps.

Hi Jon,
thanks for your response. On my desktop pc running Windows XP, I do not have the NovaPDF driver/application installed. However, on my laptop running Vista, I do have this app installed and can confirm that it works.
Not wishing to re-install FH ver4.02 on my XP machine, I have installed a freeware program called 'doPDF' v6 (which I believe may be produced by Nova) and this brings about the same results as per my Vista machine, ie, I am able to produce a PDF file from FH. Slightly different procedure in Family Historian on my XP machine, in so far as I go straight to PRINT, and then choose the PDF 'printer' rather than going to DIAGRAM, > OUTPUT FILE as> .PDF file etc. However, the end result is the same.
Thanks for your time
