Adding media

Post by pwe » 16 May 2009 15:02

I have just started using version 4 and am delighted with it. I have put my several files into projects with the media for each into its own dedicated media folder within its project folder as recommended.
However, when I am working in a project and go to add media the media folder that I am presented with to select the media from is the media folder that was last used which is not necessarily the media folder for the project being worked on.
This is not a big deal as I can easily navigate to the required media folder in the open project but it would be easier if this were not necessary. Does anyone know if there is a way to achieve this please.

Thankyou Jane.
Does anyone else have this problem or is it something with my set-up?

I am not seeing this at all, just added an image. Then clicked on Add picture again and it defaulted to the folder I picked out the last one from.

I think Peter E's issue is that if you open a different project P2 and add multimedia, FH4 goes to the same folder as used previously for project P1, not to a folder which is part of the folder structure for project P2. I suppose the problem is that FH4 doesn't know which folder to default to for multimedia, since there could be different subfolders under the media folder of each project. Perhaps a wish-list item for FH4 to remember the last-used multimedia folder (as opposed to Backups, etc.) for each individual project (if any) rather than globally?

Jane now insert an image but using a different project and you will see my point.
Yes Peter R that was my point.

Additionally, if you add media to a fact as in the demo and use 'insert from file' instead of using 'link to existing media record' as in the video you are taken to the public folder. However this is the public folder for the project which was last used and not necessarily the one for the project you are working with. Additionally you cannot tell from the public window presented which project it is the public folder for. You have to go up one level to find out.

What I believe is needed is for the relevant folder for that project to always be offered. After all that is most likely the one you will want and it is quite possible that your projects are in no way connected so the public folders for other projects are of no use. In other words complete separation of projects.
When reports are saved they you are always offered the correct public folder in which to save them.

Could the problem be that the picture/video or whatever media you are using should be in the Media folder of the project .fh_data folder and not in the Public folder?

Gerry,
No Gerry, exactly the same happens if you try to go to the media folder - you are presented with the last used one and not necessarily the one for the project you are working with. See original post.

Peter,

It does look as if FH4 defaults to the last folder used, regardless of the project so I would also like a solution!
