Same Sex Spouse

When I started using FHV3 about a month ago, which has been upgraded to FHV4, the GED file was created by FTM which permitted easy entry of data about individuals of the same sex that were either married or partners.

Now the FH *Validation Report* states that the *Husband* is not male and the Husband field was removed.

Darlene Warner had a child with an Unknown male.

When Darlene Warner died the records state her lifetime partner was Linda Davis.

In the *Families* tab of the *Records* window they are listed as a family.

In the *Focus Window* they are shown as partners.

In the *Individual Summary Report* about Darlene Warner it indicates a 2nd marriage but does not show a name.

When a *Standard Descendant Diagram* is created it shows the Unknown male as a spouse and it shows another box for a spouse but it does not contain any information.

What steps are required to be able to create diagrams/reports which show the partner ?

V3 did not support Same Sex relationships.

Simply go back through and ensure you have each couple correctly showing on the properties dialogue correcting to attach to an existing person if you need to.

Ongoing saga with same sex marriage/partners.

The GED file was imported into FHV3 which did not support same sex marriage/partners.

Then software was upgraded to FHV4.

I have been working on all items which FHV3 listed in its Validation Report which states Husband field has been removed.

What steps are required to have same sex spouse show in *Properties Dialog* ?

When Properties are selected for Sara Newport there is no name for spouse only a tab with the title being with Add Spouse/Partner.

When Properties are selected for Margo Welton there is no name for a spouse the tabs titles being Unknown and with Add Spouse/Partner.

Upon clicking on Add Spouse/Partner the message states The selected individual is already a parent in this family.

In the Families tab there is nothing for husband Welton, Margo.

Cannot create a Family Group Sheet for Sara Newport only family name is Margo Welton.

Created a Family Group Sheet for Margo Welton
Husband is shown as Unknown Kealey
Wife is shown as Margo Welton
Husband is shown as Margo Welton
Wife is shown as Sara Newport

I would recommend deleting the family records, not the individuals, and then creating a new family record.

I suspect that some where in the moves there are extra family records in the mix.

I don't have time to play with this as I am off on holiday in the morning. Perhaps someone else has come across this?

Per website:

*What’s New in Version 4
Full support for same sex relationships has been added.*

This feature is not true.

When I imported my GEDCOM file into FH V3, I was not aware that it did not support *same sex relationships*. Now that I am using FH V4 and try to link to an individual within the file that is the same sex it does not allow this.

Just found an obituary which has a child who has a same sex partner which had been entered several years ago into the tree.

Since my tree has 142,000+ individuals and do not know how many relationships were of the same sex, any ideas on how to fix this ?

I am not sure why you are having an issue if you are running V4.

When I add a Spouse, I simply click add spouse on the Property Box and change the drop down to show both sexes and select the relevant person.

If you are saying that V3 lost your Same Sex relationships then yes it would have done, as we discussed earlier, it would as it did not support them.

One option if you still have your old FTW gedcom file would be to open that in V4, save it and use the merge option to check for additional same sex relationships from the old file.

It seems that when the GEDCOM was imported/opened with FH V3 that all the individuals were imported but the link to same sex relationships was removed.

The individual appears in FH V4 but it does not permit creating a relationship between same sex individuals that exit within this version of FH.

Yes you can attach the person back, simply use the add spouse option to reconnect them, as I explained in my earlier post.
