I have set up the Records window to show the spouse name, but in some cases the individual has been married more than once and it is always the first spouse name that appears, not necessarily the one I am interested in. I know I can re-order the spouse details so the correct name appears, but then the data is out of sequence - is there another way to identify the 'main' marriage?

I had a similar problem especially when the first child was illegitimate, so there was no spouse known.
I added another column to the records window to show the surname of the 2nd spouse. You could go on and add 3rd, 4th ....

I had thought about the idea of having a woman's married surname as a column - but had never got round to doing it. The two posts, however, got me thinking and I've just tried it.
The process I used is -
1. right click on the Column Header (of the Records Window) and select 'Configure Columns ...',
2. Select the 'surname' entry from the left window and use the right arrow to move it to the right window,
3. Select the 'surname' entry from the right window and click the 'Edit' button below the right window,
4. Change the Heading to one of your choice (such as Last Surname),
5. change the expression to 'INDI.FAMS>HUSB>NAME[last]:SURNAME' {without the inverted commas},
6. Click OK.
You should now have a column which shows the last surname of women who have been married. I have yet to confirm if it also shows the surname of the last partner of a woman where they were an 'Unmarried Couple'.
This procedure works in FH3.1.2 and the demo version of FH4 (on another PC).[smile]

I've done a little more checking on this subject and got myself confused [oops].
My previous post was wrong [oops] in that the word 'last' in square brackets should be placed after the FAMS - ie INDI.FAMS[last]>HUSB>NAME[1]:SURNAME.
However, I also found another slight 'problem' which comes from INDI.FAMS[last]>HUSB>NAME[last]:SURNAME. This will give the same result as the previous line UNLESS the husband had an alternative name (as one of my ancestors had).
I hope this makes sense and helps resolve the column issues . . .

This gives the last spouse for everyone not just wives.

I think you might be able to do it now with the new functions in V4, but it would take a bit of playing with.

I see there is a IsAncestorOf function. I've not looked that closely. Can you put functions in these statements?
