Uncategorised Data (_FREL and _MREL)

Post by ricm » 04 May 2009 06:32

I ran this check and obtained a named list of uncategorised data. There are 58 records all of which have exactly the same problem:

The field occurs only under the 'child' field where there are two fields marked
'_FREL' and '_MREL'. (And yes, the underscore is always present).
Against each '_FREL' and '_MREL' is the field value which is always 'Natural'.

I have a feeling the records are those originally entered some time ago using FTM.

Suggestions what to do about these records (or the fields)?

Thanks, Ric

They are FTM fields. If you don't need them you can either change the UDF option to delete them, or just go in on the All tab or records window to delete them.

On menu Tool/Find Uncategorised Data which will build you a list to work through to delete them.

Hi Jane, thanks for your reply. You said:

'If you don't need them you can either change the UDF option to delete them, or just go in on the All tab or records window to delete them.'

I don't know if I need them or not. I have deleted a few and everything appears just the same regarding relationships so I am guessing these fields are outside the GEDCOM spec and therefore completely unnecessary. Correct?

Can you tell me, therefore, whether all children are automatically regarded as 'natural' unless some other flag is set (e.g., adopted)?
Thanks again
Ric

I have tried deleting these _FREL and _MREL but they don't stay deleted. Each time I come back to a project there they are again. Is there a way that I can get them to stay deleted?

I can't think why they would re-appear, perhaps just double check the save has taken place, by changing another field at the same time?
