Thumbnail View Issues

Post by PatrickT » 30 Apr 2009 08:25

I've noticed that FH appears to build thumbnails at launch as Jane points out in another thread. However, the last time I loaded my main project there was a broken link to one multimedia record (I'd renamed a file externally) and an X in the thumbnail box. I repaired the link by directly editing the record (not by using the work with links dialogue) but FH didn't rebuild the thumbnail. I had to exit and reload. This could get tedious!

Also I'm seeing unusual behaviour when I scroll down the thumbnail screen by clicking and dragging on the scroll bar. When I get about 90% down the screen the display flips back up to the top. If I go down to just before this happens and then page down by clicking on the lower section of the scroll bar everything works OK.

I'd noticed the behaviour from your first point in V3. When editing media links I'd either changed externally, OR by replacing with a link to a different file, the refresh would not happen until FH was restarted. I just took it to be a quirk! I've had similar problems with thumbnails of people on diagrams; when adding the media the diagram did not always update try what I might, and I had to restart.

I've reported a similar scrolling problem with the scroll tab jumping back to the top at certain points when dragging it. My issue was with the reports, but it could be the same code being used in the thumbnail view. Does the behaviour change when you change the size of FH's window?

This is what I reported on 5/3/2009:
When viewing a large report and scrolling through it by dragging the scroll tab down with the mouse, the page number sometimes gets reset back to 1. If the mouse is released at this point, the page displayed is page 1. If the mouse is not released and the tab moved back, the page number reverts back to normal.

Also if the report is large enough, scrolling down to the bottom will not cause the last page to be displayed, but some other page. Watching the page number whilst scrolling it seems that the page number doesn't reach the maximum, but some other intermediate value.

The appearance of this bug is dependant on the size (height) of the main program window. When viewing a Record Detail report of 77000 individuals, the page reset to 1 twice when the program is full screen on a monitor of 1600x1200. But when the window is reduced in height to about 500 pixels, the reset occurs 6 times. With the program full size, the page number reaches ~16000 before cycling back to 1. With the program height reduced the page number only reaches 6300.

I'm also experiencing the scroll bar problem in Multimedia.

Clicking the scroll bar works ok, as does using the mouse to scroll once focus is put onto one of the thumbnails.

As far as I can tell the behaviour is independent of the height of the program window.
