Sorry folks because I know the issue of moving files and fixing links has been covered before but I just don't seem to be able to get anything to work. I'm sure I must be doing something wrong, so could someone please give me an idiot's guide to doing this.

My situation:

I had all my files on an external hard drive, ie. drive e:. I have now moved everything to my laptops internal c: drive so that I can use my files whilst on the move. Unfortunately my multimedia files are still showing that they file is located on my e: drive and the message states that the program is unable to locate the file.

I understand completely that I need to make the program point to their new location on my c: drive but I am not able to complete this task.

When I use the work with external links facility, my .GED file is featured in the current tree file with the correct location. But how do I correct the individual media file links?

An idiots guide please. Helpppppppp?

In the work with external file links, you should see a tree view of how the gedcom file thinks the disc is organised. FH puts a cross against items that don't resolve. If all your media are in a folder originally called e:some pathmedia, you should click on media on the tree control and then do MOVE to select where the directory now is.

In your case you should work around the top level of all items in the tree view with a cross one by one, and MOVE them to their new location.

Hope this makes sense on screen, it does in my head!
