installation problem

Post by maggiemm » 15 Feb 2009 10:30

Hi

We already have FH 3.0 on a windows XP machine and are now installing it on a linux laptop (Acer Aspire One running Linpus), to be run under Wine. All goes according to plan until we're asked to enter the registration key.

A window comes up asking for the key, but the textbox won't accept any entries - there is no way to type in it.

We tried following the suggestions on http://memorything.wordpress.com
(involving adding 2 dll files to the wine setup), but it made no difference.

One idea: there must be somewhere the key is stored, which could be edited by hand. Does anyone know where that is on a usual Windows installation? (Couldn't find it in the registry, nor in a text file in the installation directory.)

Or are there any other suggestions?

Thanks, James

Can't help with Linux I am afraid, but I know there are a couple of people around who do run it.

Another option might be to use VMWare to build a full windows virtual.

I have installed FH on Ubuntu and the main problem I had after copying the dll files was remembering to override the default ones.
Run winecfg and on the “libraries” tab override the settings for the two dlls so that wine uses the native ones instead of the builtins.
I hope this helps.

Woops!

I hadn't read the instructions properly on the webpage I linked to in previous post - I hadn't run winecfg!

It now works fine. Hope I haven't wasted anyone's time looking for a solution!

Just noticed DeeJay1's reply - you hit the nail on the head! Thanks for that.

And thanks to Jane for the encouragement.
