Pictures Missing
Over the passed few weeks I have gratually been placing a photograph of each person in my family tree. Just now I opened the previous version and the photographs were all there. I then added a new one, as I have done before, and suddenly all the photos are not there and instead there is just a large cross where the photo was. I opened up a previous backup version but that also shows all the photos as a cross.
Help please.

This may help - if only to isolate it isn't the problem.
Open up your gedcom file in a text editor and look for one of the line entries relating to a photo - it will show you the /exact/ directory path.
Check that against the actual directory path in explorer of where the photos are actually stored.
If there's any difference then that would be your problem.
You can then resolve it by doing a global search and replace in your text editing programme - but back up first

Or better than using a text editor, use the Work With External File links option on the tools menu to repair the links, by pointing your file at where your images are.

Hello Rob
I am new to the Family Historian package and am not really that computer literate so sorry but I don't know what a text editor is and therefore don't know where to start.
I forgot to say on my original e-mail that this all occurred when I was inserting a photo and by mistake I pushed the Context Pane instead of the New Frame & Link/Note icon. All that seemed to happen was that the photo went the right side of the screen. I added the 2 phots and that's when the problem started. I saved that document and when I went back into it I found that the 2 new pictures were there but not all the originals.
In the meantime I loaded a copy I made about 2 days ago from my CD drive and when I opened that all the photos were also just shown as crosses.

Are your photos on an external drive?
If so, check that everything is correctly plugged in and you can 'see' other files on the drive.

Graham is it possible you have moved your photos on your disk (perhaps you have them on an external drive which is not currently plugged in)?
You need to open FH and your file and go to the Menu and select Tools/Work With External File links, see chapter 10 of the Manual around page 117.

Thanks all. I moved all my photos to a different file name and deleted the originals, but unfortunately the Family Historian package is still trying to find them from the original picture file. The FH package doesn't seem to like using the new place for my photos on the diagrams I had already produced so have decide to cut my losses and start again.
Thanks again

It's important to understand how FH links to file. It accesses it from your disk each time you render the chart so once they are linked they need to stay in the same place on your system.
I would recommend reading
http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id ... your_files
Which gives some suggestions on organising your files for FH.
