Version 4

Post by Rusty » 15 Jan 2009 11:07

I was just wondering what the implications are if rather than upgrade I decided to buy the complete version 4? For example would it overwrite my existing version or would I have both version 3 and version 4 on my PC, and would I be able to transfer my information over? I can see the advantage of buying the full version 4 if I needed to reinstall for any reason, but apart from about the £12.70 difference in cost what are the disadvantages/advantages?

Margaret

PS - Sorry to be impatient, but will we get to see some screen shots before the release date?

If Simon from Calico Pie comes along he may clarify this or correct me if I'm wrong but...

I don't think you would get any benefit from having both versions installed. I believe that version 4 will import your settings from version 3 automatically.

I believe that the only disadvantage in buying the upgrade is that if you ever need to reinstall you would need to install your version 3 first and then install the version 4 upgrade. There was a recent discussion about this: See this thread

There may be some other advantages to getting the full version that I'm not aware of, e.g. a printed manual or free credits for a family history website, etc.

However, generally I think one would expect a user of version 3 to just buy the upgrade.
