Recording cousin marriages

Post by Rohaise » 10 Jan 2009 15:57

Is there any way I can record two first cousins marrying without giving them both new numbers? I also have a much more distant cousin marriage which will also pose a problem as half of each line will be virtually the same.
I looked at various threads but can't find an answer to this.

There are no problems with this, simply select the 'existing person' option when adding the spouse and select the pre-existing cousin.

You will find the diagrams will show the cousins on both sides of the tree, but if you have detect duplicates on, it should 'fold' one side of their descendants and put in a curved linking line.

Hi,

When you select the spouse click on 'Existing Person' and choose the spouse from the list. This works for all grades of 'cousin'.

Sorry to sound completely stupid but where is Existing person? Can't find it at all on any tab. Have tried Help menu. I looked at all these before posting this query and have had another look but can't find it. Please some step by step solution.

Assuming you are using the property dialog.

Open the first person, click on the spouse name field (where it says click here to add spouse) and a drop down will appear, which says 'Create New Record as Spouse' and 'Select existing Record As Spouse' take the latter option and select the person you want from the list which appears.

When you add a spouse to someone you click in the Name box where it says . When you click there you will see an option to 'Link existing record as spouse'
