I tried to find an answer to this elsewhere unsuccessfully ...

I've recently obtained the birth certificates of two people (one of whom I actually knew & who died recently - I have her original b.c BTW) who claimed to have middle names (I'll tell you in case anyone actually knows them also!):

o Phyllis May Coe (nee: Wisbey);
o Bertie Benjamin Charles Wisbey (her father).

On their birth cert.'s they are just plain 'Bertie Wisbey' & 'Phyllis Wisbey'.

Is it usual around the turn of the century that b.c's don't reflect the full given names? Or is it likely that they just 'adopted' those extra names later?

Any help appreciated - Kevin

Perhaps they got added later. Have you found the baptisums, you may find they were added then.

I think I know the answer to this already...

Are there any online places to get baptism cert's?

Not to my knowledge. Most of mine came from reading microfiche records at the record office.

have you tried their marriage certificate to see what name is used there (if they married) ?

one person on my tree was baptised as Emily, but the GRO index has the birth registered as Amelia.
On childhood censuses she is listed as Amelia, so assumed the vicar misheard at the baptism.

Anyway, I got her marriage certificate last week and on there she is listed as Emily Amelia. On censuses after she married, she is listed as Emily.
