May as well get it started. Simon has done a really great job with the reports etc. However, as always, there are individual preferences. Could we have the report fonts available in different colours please.

Can we have a feature that enables us to resize images in the multimedia window(s).

Example.. when trying to view hires scans of Birth Certificates etc.. there is no way of reducing the size of the image displayed in the window. (Unless I'm being thick!)


Also, (and again I may be being thick here) could we have a feature similar to that found in Family Tree Maker 10 that allows you to view an 'All-In-One' tree? i.e All branches open on all sides of the family and for all spouses families.


Can I also just say how amazing this program is. Good work Simon! and I look forward to the joys that 2.2 will bring.

No you are not. I think its already on the list.

All in One Tree
No there is not one of these as such,  although I found it less than usful on my data file (3000 plus people).

Also if you pick a 'low' member of your family (I pick myself) or my family as spouse, the large majority of the data will be selected anyway.

You can always print any 'other families' on additional charts.

Don't forget you can also select a couple and do an all relies chart from that and also that you can set the level of descendants from each generation and by increasing the rows per generation you will see more and more data.

Going to throw my vote in for all-in-one tree also.

I'm also an FTM user looking to migrate to something that can produce decent HTML output and publish to somewhere non-proprietary, and an all-in-one-tree with photos is also high on my list, as a number of relatives like having those sent to them.

More specifically, if we could select exactly what was going to be charted, one could then choose all, or a pertinent subset if they had a large tree that was not practical for a wall chart.

HTML output can be done by a variety of programs, many of them free, direct from a GEDCOM file as FH uses a GEDCOM file all the time this is an easy job.

I would suggest checking out the all reletives chart with photos.

I'd have to disagree. I've tried a lot of the GEDCOM to HTML programs around and they all fall down in the level of integration for things like images, as well as the ability to produce charts.

I'm looking for an all-in-one solution that doesn't involve me having to maintain separate archives of images, and having to maintain data in more than one place.

As for the relatives chart, I've had a look at that, via the FH demo, and it doesn't produce what I'd like to see (and I suspect other FTM users who find the all-in-one tree useful). incidentally, 100 individuals is quite limiting, in the demo, to be able to see what the relatives tree might look like for comparison purposes - I'd suggest increasing that to 200.

May I suggest you look at something like phpgedview this does produce simple ancestor and descendant charts and with a couple of minor tweaks will retain the photo links from FH, although not the partial photograph links.

As an ex-FTM user I must say that with a 2,500 person file I never found the  All in one chart was usable for me.

Thanks for the advice. I had not considered PHP offerings, to date, as I run a Frontpage site, although running PHP alongside is not an issue.

Your suggestion does look like it has potential, and I could live without the partial image links, particularly so since it is written in PHP and given that it is open-source and also has customisable templates.

I understand, and had previously acknowledged, that an AIO chart isn't useful for everyone, though, that in itself, is not a good reason to dismiss the need for such a feature if there are a significant number of people who do find it useful - even if that is a minority.

Anyway, thanks for the pointer to PHPGedView - that reinforces the case for FH, for me.

Default Start-up File:
PLEASE could it call up the 'Last Used' file name?
Because I update the file's name before doing any work, on the next start-up the new name has to be found.

Auto save:
Can the 'incremental' saves be accessed? V-useful after a crash.

Start-up frame sizes:
Would lessen irritation if previous size was retained.
Or even opened at MAX?

FH is still a great Gen-Prog. And I'm getting and checking-out a new one every other month !!!
