How To Animations

Post by Jane » 08 Mar 2004 19:03

I have been experimenting with using 'Flash' to create How animations.

I have uploaded one and would appreciate any comments about it.

It simply shows how to add the spouse surname column to the records window, it is about 200Kb in total.

Jane,
That was excellent.
When the FH record window was shown it more than filled my screen so I had to scroll down to see the action (probably to do with my screen resolution size). However this made no difference at all as all of the animation takes place in the lower half of the window. 10 out of 10

Superb, Admin Person!
Well presented and well worth viewing. Now, how about the 'mark using query' feature question?!!!!!!

Nigel.
(P.S. Did you use Flash in something like Dreamweaver?)

This is an excellent way to help new users, or those with difficulties in using some of the features in FH.

If I could make a couple of suggestions:

1. Have a guide as to how many steps there are ie Step 5 of 17 so that you know how long it is going to take. Personally I like to know what I am letting myself in for.

2. The ability, if it is possible, to make it more interactive, ie if the message says 'right click here' then allow the user to do that before moving on. I do not know if that is possible with Flash, not being a Flash user. You may need to use a proper authoring program

David, I think I can do the first, but I think I would need RoboHelp for the second option and thats £500, and seeing as I do not get paid for what I do on FHUG it's a bit of a big outlay [grin]. I can move the next button around the screen and change its shape so I will have a play. I think right click will be the problem though.

vliet - The program is called Wink and is a free flash tutorial creator.

Ok, 3 more animations have been added and I am learning how to use Wink.

Vlet - that includes one called Using lists which includes
  • making a list
  • adding the list to the records window as a tick box
  • creating a query based on the list
  • Using the query to mark a diagram

Not wishing to add to your load Jane but where are they?

Perhaps a link to them may help us find them!

Would love to see sources done by animation - found the picture tutorial really good but had already worked out how to do them!

To be honest, as I'm no great expert on FH any tutorials greatly appreciated - I'm sure I'll learn something!

Keep up the good work Jane - you're doing a fantastic job for us less than able enthusiasts.[confused]

I have just posted a step by step on adding a birth certificate as a source and using autosource when adding information.

Any comment and thoughts appreciated.

Excellent animations. Well done Jane. I learnt something new about FH from them. They should help those on the mailing list calling for better manuals.
One comment (constructive) I had to keep scrolling up and down to get from the next button to where the action was taking place.

I suspect you run your computer in a low resolution, 800x600 may be?

Try pressing the F11 key in IE to use full screen mode.
