I made a diagram from the Head of one side of the family and asked it to show all relatives. It showed all his sons, daugthers and all theirs until my grandfather and grandmother, but did not show my father. Any ideas please?

I presume the person you started from is not a relation of your father.
The diagram only shows people who are blood relations and their spouses.
If you base the diagram on yourself or your parents as a couple you will in most cases maximise the number of people shown for your tree. So my suggestion would be to experiment with different tree roots.
Remember if you need to you can add additional trees to a chart.

On the other hand, if the the starting person is a direct ancestor of your father then you may not be displaying sufficient generations on the diagram. If you right click on a blank bit of the diagram, choose 'Diagram Options' and make sure that the 'General' tab is selected you can reset the number of generations displayed.
