Customising Reports
I am trying to create a Custom Report based on 'Record Detail - Families'. I have managed to save it as a custom report but I don't need any Sources to be shown as all I want is a summary sheet. I tried putting =0 beside all the references to Sources in the .fhr file (using Wordpad) but it seems to make no difference. Have I missed something?
I would also like to show where the spouse and each child was born or baptised but can't see where this should be in the .fhr report.

Why are you editing the .fhr file?
The record detail is a very simple report, I suspect you will get on much better starting with the Family Group Sheet, especially if you want to customise it.

Hi Jane,
I'm using the 'Record Details - Families' report because it gives me the layout I want on a single sheet. The only thing it shows that I don't want is sources. I was editing the .fhr file because the Options button doesn't give me access to switch off the details I don't want.
The Family Group Sheet has far too much detail on it for my purpose and I can't switch it off, eg events and attributes.

I'm using version 3.1.2 and the family group sheet lets you turn on/off any events/attributes as well as sources. I just tried it and it is even possible to get just a list of the family members without any dates or any events if need be! In the Report Options under the first tab you have 3 lists of events/attributes which you can select or unselect.

The other thing to remember is that if the options are not in on the screen the report will not be coded to take notice of them.
As Nick says you can customise pretty well every thing on the group sheet.
I presume you have already tried and rejected the Short Family Group Sheet in the Query Store
http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cg ... ates&id=12
I suspect though it would be a good place to start from. Especially if you turn off the Family Summary and Notes options on the top left of the document.

Jane & Nick,
Thanks. I have just worked out that I have to have an empty 'List Only' under Contents/Family Members etc.
Basically I want a single page Family Summary (as a record header sheet for my paper files) with dates and spouses but no sources or events/attributes etc.
The 'Record Detail - Families' gives me most of what I want and I like the layout with the linking lines but I can't see how to switch off scources and, if possible, I would like to add place of birth/baptism. Can this be done?
I have tried the report you suggest but it has too much information for my particular needs that I can't switch off.
Regards,
Gerry

NO you can't customise the Record print other than with the options on the options panel.
You can get closest to what you want with just the events you want by starting with the the Family Group sheet. Remember to also turn off the items you don't want in the bottom left panel as well.
I have done a shortish version
http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cg ... ates&id=16
This is getting a family with 9 children on one page, and if you wanted to drop baptisms and burials, probably a couple more.

Jane,
Very many thanks for the time you have spent answering my query. The version you have produced is getting close to what I want and I can work on it to fit in some of the large families I am dealing with.

Gerry
