Report on census events - years missing!

Post by barbarahead » 21 Jun 2008 18:46

I am trying to compile a report showing me the Census info I have for certain people. When I go into REPORTS then MISCELLANEOUS then INDIVIDUAL CENSUS it doesn't bring all of the census info up. It doesn't bring up the census events for people once married. How do I change this?

Report on census events - years missing!

I'm guessing that you have used individual census events but then switched to using census events linked to family records when they are married. This has been discussed a number times over the years on this forum and on the Family Historian mailing list and the consensus is that census events linked to family records are best avoided. If you have a family with 10 children and create a census event linked to the family it implies that all the children were present during that census but it is rarely true that they are all together in a particular census: the younger ones may not be born yet, the older ones may have moved out. The only way to clearly show where each person was during a particular census is to create individual census records for each person.

I think the query you refer to assumes you are using only census events linked to individuals.

I know I'm a bit biased but I recommend taking a look at my 'Gedcom Census' utility available on this website. Hundreds of Family Historian users use it to help them enter their census records much more quickly.
