Does anyone know how I can convert a large one name study file currently in Works Db (*.wdb) format to a gedcom file.
This ,of course would then enable me to load into FH.
thanks

Had a quick look on google - you may have to go via a different format. Here are some ideas on text and excel conversion - http://www.tedpack.org/text2ged.html.

There are lots of tools to go the other way which is no help[smile]

Just had a look on Cyndi's list - again there are many tools but all seem to be aimed at the other route, i.e. Gedcom out. Maybe if you had a browse something might turn up?

Is it possible to convert a Works Database to an Excel spreadsheet? If so -- how is your French?

While looking for something else entirely, I revisited
Louis Kessler's Genealogy Software Links
http://www.lkessler.com/gplinks.shtml (last updated Sunday June 01 2008 ) -- it is an extensive list of 'what's out there'.
VisuGed by Jean Chabaud
A French program that imports one or more GEDCOM files and to offer various functions including a consistency check, visualization, analysis, export, comparison, fusion, indexing and more. There are a few other utility programs at this site that include: TransGed translates Excel files into GEDCOM. AscGed converts an ascendency chart into GEDCOM. DesGed converts a descendency chart into GEDCOM. AnniGed pulls anniversaries out of GEDCOM files. Website is in French.

Text2GED

Converts genealogy data displayed in a web browser into standard GEDCOM 5.5 file format. It lets you copy and paste several types of web pages, including FamilySearch.org, Ancestry's World Family Tree, and GenCircles. This enables you to import the data into your genealogy program.
I also found this teaser on the Gedmagic.com site's 'coming soon' page for a tool to go from an Excel spreadsheet or Access database to a GEDCOM:
GEDxlate - Full version (June 2007 release)

Same features as GEDxlate Lite, plus convert MS Access, MS Excel, and CSV files into GEDCOM format; additional field selections (including Notes and Sources); select specific records; edit capabilities; and more.
The version of GEDxlate I've seen only goes the other way, but the website clearly says the new tool plans to go from CSV and the other formats INTO a GEDCOM format. So if he hasn't done it yet, it may still be something worth keeping an eye on.

Hope this helps.

Works allows one to save direct to CSV so getting data out should be somewhat straightforward depending on how the fields have been used
