How do I start?

Post by BML » 07 May 2008 18:40

I have collected a load of old family photographs which I have used to construct a slide show and I want to use a family tree as the opening slide. I started with MyHeritage but found it was not possible to transfer the image so I am trying this package.
I got as far as importing the GED file to FH and can see the details on, 'Records' but stupid as it seems I have no idea on how to get the actualfamily tree started. Couls someone please give me a hint.

Just click on a person and click on one of the diagram buttons or select a Diagram from the diagram menu.

Try watching the getting started tutorial in the knowledge base
http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id ... ng_started

Once you have done that and are ready to add pictures try the other tutorials

If you get stuck just ask here.

I got a second wind and carried on. Having created a draft family tree I attempted to export it to Pinnacle, the slide building software I am using but what ever way I saved it the result was that it lost focus when opened in Pinnacle. What media can I save it in so it will be usable in a slide show?

Try a jpg file, but if you are making a DVD style show, you may not have enough resolution to get a really clear tree. Check the pinnacle specs to see what you are resolution you are outputing to, if it's only normal wide screen not HD you need images only about 480px high.

How are you planning to display the slide show? Pinnacle is really aimed at creating videos or slide shows for display on a TV, and with a TV screen you won't get good enough resolution to display more than 3 or 4 generations of a family tree.

If you give us a bit more information on what you are trying to achieve maybe people here can come up with ideas.

David.
