I'm starting to collect information about origins of Surnames in my tree from one source: 'Dictionary of Jewish Surnames in the Russian Empire'.

The text for each citation is different for each surname.

I would like to put this information in the most appropriate place and then be able to produce a report that lists all the surnames with the origin / meaning.

If adding this as a source citation for individuals I would need to copy and Paste the citation for each person with the same surname.

Can anyone please recommend the best way of documenting my surname origins please, whilst being able to produce a comprehensive single report, rather than a citation listing for each individual?

I would have thought the simplest way might be to use Shared Notes for the origin information linked to a set of sources for the Dictionary.

Of course this depends on you view of sourcing. I have one source per page for census and one source per certificate.

If you go this route you can then attach the source to the people as you want. In addition if you put the same source type on them all you can easily do a source listing for the selected type using a query.

Thanks Jane,
I've Created a separate source record for each surname, then I have created a custom report with the details in.
