Hi,
I tend to save my family group sheets as HTML to share with other researchers but have not done so for some time. I have tried today but they are now saving in internet format with an 'E' logo attached rather than a 'FH' and they are no longer simple document files. I have unchecked the box suggesting I open the new file with web browser. Sorry if this has been covered before - couldn't find it.

html is an internet format, are you sure you don't normally use Rich Text Format (rtf).
I am not sure how you have associated either format with FH as I would expect rtf files to open with WordPad or Word and html files to open with IE or firefox.

Sorry to be so ignorant, Jane - I'm sure it was HTML as this gives the look I prefer; however, it never previously insisted on opening the file via the net. I have tried using rich text via Word and Wordpad but they make it look like a bad Excel file. Thanks for your help - I really rely on easy access to these sheets and I just don't know what I'm doing wrong! Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Sorry - back again. I have had another look at the rich text Word sheets and they look OK. What I really need to know is why things have changed. I used to be able to save as HTML, it would show it on screen and I could click away from it to leave the original FH file. Now it just saves straight to My Docs with no preview and has to be opened with IE. Technology, eh. I'm getting too old for all this.....!

To be honest I am not sure what you were doing originally, as html files have always required a browser to view them as far as I can remember.

Either a browser, or a text editor which is designed to be used in writing html files.Jane said:

I have a couple of different editors which can handle html -- if I get an email with a lot of links in it, and tell Eudora 'send to browser', sometimes it will open my text editor and show the newsletter with live links, rather than sending it to Firefox.

Thanks for that. Maybe I have lost a text editor along the way as I've never had to employ IE before. I will have to investigate....
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Not just text editors, some html files can also be opened in MS Word and display correctly. I often copy and paste internet pages of interest into Word, then save it as an html file.
Maybe this is what's happening?
