In the 1851 England Census for Somerset,Hutton Dist 2 I have found relative Thomas Collipriest (spelled Callepriest in census). His occupation is 'B&ER Police'. The B&RE is clear, the word 'police' I'm pretty sure of. Can anyone tell me what this would mean. Thomas' wife, Fanny, is then listed as 'Police wife.'
Thanks, Bonnie

Could B&RE be a force name, Bristol and Region perhaps?

If you post the census reference some might take a look at the page.

Possibly Bristol & Exeter Railway Police?

Hutton is within 2 km of Weston-super-Mare, which is on the old Bristol and Exeter Railway. He was undoubtedly in the Bristol & Exeter Railway Police.

Is it B&ER or B&RE? You have said both in your post
