Notes Pages - Migrating from FTM to FH

Post by neildavis » 14 Feb 2003 16:32

I'm currently running FTM v.10 under Windows ME.  Having seen a demo of HE by Simon the other night, I would like to purchase HE v.2.1.

I've hundreds of free-form Notes pages in my FTM databases, some of them with up to 2000 words.

Someone I know who has FH v.2.0 has been experiencing problems importing Notes pages from FTM to FH.

Is there a problem with this and, if so, will it be corrected in v.2.1.?

Neil

I imported my data from FTM 10 (Windows XP). I had no problems with the notes. However, the note column in FH is quite narrow and a lot of word wrapping took place which made the notes pretty unreadable. Quite why Simon restricted the notes I'm not certain. I hope that this area is addressed in the upgrade.

Thanks Ron,

At least the totality of the text seems to be imported even though readability appears to be a problem.  For large tracts of text, this can always be copied and pasted into Word if required for better readability.

Hopefully, an expandable box will be provided in later versions.

I think an expandable notes box is very likely [rolleyes]

One problem you may have is that FTM exports notes incorrecly according to the GedCom standard.

I have worked out the logic for changing them, but have not yet added the code to GedFixFTM.

If I get a chance this week, I will try and add the logic in.

Is that the considered opinion of a 2.1 beta tester? [grin]

I have recently transfered my records from FTM v10. As far as I can see the notes (some of them very long) are intact. There are some formatting problems (word run together). I have corrected most of these by copying the text to Word, correcting there, in replacing the original.
