Do you guys create a new source for every multimedia object/picture that you import, or just those with info to record from (eg census page)?
To put it in context, I have a photo of a church where a relative was the Rector. In order to get the photo to show up on his property dialog box, I guess that I need to link to the individual. But would you also create a new source and then link the photo to the source, or is that overkill?
What do people do in practice?

In my opinion, a photo of a church where a relative happened to work would just be a photo linked to that individual. Because of the limitations of Gedcom, you can't attach pictures to places, so the next best thing is to attach it to the relavent individuals.
However, I would create a source and attach a picture to it if the picture was a scan or copy of an official document from which I had sourced information. So a birth certificate would be attached to a source and not to the individual.
Basically if there is some information you can extract from the multimedia object, then attach it to a source record which identifies that information. Otherwise just attach it to the most relavent record.

You could also attach it to the Occupation event as a source, or if you have a source already for the occupation you could attach the photo to that
