Census Birthplace

I keep coming across ancestors who in the 81, 91 and 01 Censuses have their birthplace listed as MEOT either London or Middlesex.  Does anybody know what this means?

I did a google search and a couple of pages suggested

'MEOT', stands for Mile End Old Town

Yes, I have seen this confirmed on several County Lists.

Mile End Old Town it is.
