Merging diagrams

Post by drr001 » 27 Oct 2007 20:34

Is it possible to merge two diagrams? I have a main 'All Relatives' diagram, which misses out one set of distant relatives who are in the records file. The only way I can think of making sure they are included is to create a second diagram and merge it with the first. Is this possible - or is there a better way?

Many thanks.

If you have V3 you can simply right click to add another diagram to your chart, then you can use the save custom chart option to retain that layout for later use.

A slight variation on the original query: I have a small file of 25 individuals who are all related, either directly or by marriage. Using the 'all relatives' diagram format, I can't get all the individuals shown in the diagram-there are always some missing irrespective of who I select as the focus. What can I do to rectify this? How do I make Jane's suggestion work?[question]

To get everyone on your diagram you need to use the Everyone Diagram not the All Relatives Diagram. This is available from the menu. Select View->Standard Diagrams->Everyone.

Yes, thanks for that; I've tried the 'everyone' option, but I don't like the swoopy lines it creates. I've experimented now with the 'Insert into diagram' but it seems difficult to position the new diagram without duplicating boxes.
I was just surprised that the 'All relatives' option seems to miss people out as the OP mentions above.[frown]

Have you tried baseing the main all relations diagram on a key couple, that normally helps, make sure you change all the settings to max generations and down from root, then just add ancestor diagrams or may be hourglass charts where you need them.

With my own file I can get a reasonable spread basing the chart on my husband and I and just adding my B.I.L's hour glass chart to get that family in.

Remember you have control just turn off any boxes you don't want.

Your tree will soon grow, just entering my husbands siblings and descendants gave me over 100 people, and then you need the controls FH provides for customising the diagrams.

If you don't like the connecting ribbons (swoopy lines) go into Diagram Options and click on the Options... button to the right of Check for duplicates.  This opens the Duplicate Options Dialogue where you can uncheck Link duplicates in the diagram (second option down).  The ribbons will no longer appear.
