Mother's name on child's birth certificate

Hi everyone,

I have a little question for you. If a woman marries (maiden name French), her husband dies (married name Wilshere) and she remarries (2nd married name McSweeney), what name goes on the birth certificate of her child from the second marriage? Not the child's name, but the mother's? I have a possible child of the marriage and the maiden name of the mother is French, but I'm not sure if it would be French or Wilshere.

Having just checked a couple of my certificates (1911 and 1956) it is the maiden or unmarried name which is required, so you're looking for French.

I've found one of mine where it's the woman's second marriage. So I reckon yours should read X McSweeney late Wilshere formerly French. But it would depend on what the registrar was told; so it might say McSweeney formerly French or even McSweeney formerly Wilshere!!

I have a birth certificate from 1887 where the mother's name is

Charlotte nee Hill (formerly Sherratt)

Hill was her maiden name, she was the widow of Mr Sherratt and was now married as Wibberley
