Changing birth dates to year only
I would like to transfer my family tree data to Tribal Pages. I'd like to change the birth dates of living members to year only (for security reasons).
I've tried to delete the day and month columns from the Living_Flag_is_Set query but when I delete either the day or month the year is deleted as well.
Is there any way to keep the year but delete the day and month?

The only way I can think of to do this is to click on the date in the Event Tab of the properties sheet for each person and then delete the date and month individually.
Wouldn't it be easier to just flag these as 'Living' and then upload them?[wink]

I don't think you can, I can't think of any program that allows you to do this off hand. Personally I hide all dates and information except their names and relationships for living people anyway.

Removing all the information (except name) for living relatives sounds like a good plan...do you know how I'd do it?
Many thanks.[oops]

Either use a Gedcom privatising program such as as GedClean (http://www.raynorshyn.com/gedclean/index.html) or use the Split Tree Helper Function (STHF).
Using STHF, select 'Do not delete any individual records', ensure no other records are to be deleted (notes, multimedia, source, repository), click the Facts drop down list and select 'Delete all facts except list below' and keep the list empty. Then click the Delete button at the bottom of the dialog.

Thanks for that Jon. My problem is that I don't want to remove data from all the people in my tree just the ones that have the living flag. Is it possible to remove facts from this group only using STHF?
Many thanks

If you want to remove all data (except name) for people who are Living, using FH, you would first need to have some way of identifying which people are in fact living. One way would be to set the Living flag for each of these people (perhaps using a query to identify good candidates).
You could then design a query to show all events for people who have the Living flag set, and you could select all cells in each column (one column at a time) and delete them. It would be a multi-stage thing, but probably a lot easier than deleting everything one record a time.
You would need to have one column for each possible item of date (e.g. each event or attribute - Birth, Death, etc that a person might have). And you would probably want to run the query multiple times in case some people had multiple instances of a given event or attribute. For example, if your query showed each persons first occupation, when you delete that, what had been their second occupation will now become their first.
See Delete Multiple Fields in Chapter 12 of Getting the Most From Family Historian for more help.
Incidentally, Im assuming that you plan to do this on a copy of your main GEDCOM file and not on the main file itself.

You should import your GEDCOM as-is into your site at TribalPages. You can set your Privacy settings to hide some or all living information from visitors. You can also create a visitor password and setup what visitors with and without the password can see. Check out the privacy news release at:
