Hi there,
I'm having a problem which I'm sure is easily fixed, but searching through the help files hasn't helped!
Certain branches of my tree have many children and though I have ordered them by birth year they only come up in this order on the diagram sometimes (it seems to be quite random and the order isn't even always the same). I am changing my tree on ancestry almost every day with added sources etc and then downloading it to FH (perhaps this is the problem). I really don't want to have to re-order the children each time I make a new diagram. I have already enabled the automatic ordering of events in the Preferences option. What am I doing wrong? And how can I sort it out?
Thanks,
Paula

Do you have the option of working the other way round? I.e. keep the master in FH and export to Ancestry occasionally?

The gedcom exported from Ancestry, is not very good, for a start it does not contain family records properly.
As Ralph says you might be better to work the other way, alternately after you open your newly downloaded Ancestry file, take the option from the tools menu to reorder out of sequence data.

I've re-ordered the records using that option which seemed promising, but the diagram still isn't in the right order! Very frustrating.
I think I will take your advice and do things the other way around. Thanks for your help.

Nothing springs to mind as to why the resort did not correct the sequence.
Can you post a screen grab for one of the diagrams along with the properties for the Father with the children showing.

Aha, I've found the solution- when I was taking the re-order option from tools I kept the 'Prompt for confirmation before each update' checkbox ticked- unticking it does the trick and now the diagrams are putting the children in the right order. Thanks for your help.
