Gedcom to HTML?

Post by john55 » 15 Jan 2004 09:13

Hi everyone. First timer here.

What software do people on this forum use to convert Gedcom files for displaying on the web?

I have tried several and haven't found any that I either like the look of, or that display the information without errors.

I wont cloud your judgement by listing those I've tried.

Thanks in advance.

I use the excellent and free phpgedview.

You can see the results at
Http://www.taubman.org.uk/family/phpgedview

If have used gedhtree, but then customized the output using a search and replace techinque.

Thanks for the replies and my apologies for being so long in saying so. My PC went belly up and I've only just finished re-installing everything. Ho Hum! :-)

I found GedHTree to be the best out of those that I had tried. But having looked at phpgedview, I think I might give that a try. I use PHP on my sites so I should feel right at home.
Thanks for that Jane.

Hi again,
I've had a good look at phpGedView and it's great. I've installed it on my site and if you want a look, it's here:
http://langer.org.uk/others/phpGedView/
Edit: Updated link.

Another option for those who are not familiar with web design or script writing can be found at:

http://www.ancestorsonline.co.uk/

This is a subscription service [£17.50 per annum], written by Stuart Morgan, and is highly recommended.

It requires very little technical knowledge to be up and running.

Well worth a look!

I use TNG. Requires PHP and mySQL, but I am very happy with it, for the modest cost. Support is very good.
