ok say mother a and father b marrys,

they hav children say girl s marrys a guy called i,
but i (guy )is father b sisters son.how do i link these together,i think they are cousins?
help

Just select the existing person option when you select the spouse, a select the wife from the list.

i really do not understand your answer, what is the excisting person option and on who?

Presumably you already have both people s and i in your file already.

All you then need to do is to add s as the spouse of i in either the properties dialogue or by draging in a diagram to create a wife and then selecting the existing person option when prompted rather than the create new person option you would normally take.

i am still none the wiser , let me put the problem another way.

fred and mary jane are brother and sister.
fred married an elizabeth,
and had a child sarah.

mary jane married a john, they had child
sidney.

so sidney and sarah get married , cousins
i already have the join for sarah to her parents and i have sidney as sarahs spouse, now how do i connect sidney to his parents.

my other problem is when you make a mistake and delete the details in the box, how do you get rid of the box etc, i tried the hide boxes mode and everyt time i click on they appear empty.

You need to delete the record, I think you are hiding the box rather than deleting the record.

To delete a record, simply select the box on the diagram and press the delete key (or select Edit/Delete from the menu), then select the option to Delete the record.

This is covered in the later chapters of the manual, so you might find it worth reading through the working with diagrams sections.

but am still stuck how to join this cousin to his parents as i have already got him as a spouse.[grin]

The easist way is to have 'sidney' showing on a diagram. Select his box, and holding down the left mouse button drag up from the box (you should see a dotted line for a box as you do this). When you let go of the mouse button, you will get a pop-up memu, on which one option is to link to an existing record as a parent. Select this option, and you get a list of all the people in your tree, and just scroll through the list until you fnd one of his parents. When you select that parent you then get a box asking if you want to link to either create a new 'family' for the parent or link to the existing family. Just select the existing family, an press ok an dyou are done.

I have tried clicking on to sidney blue boxes as usual appear around him, i can get a dotted lin to appear tp join him to his parents, but when i let go of the mouse it goes.
I cannot get any join from his parents, can you try that info again, as i am not the greatest with computers...

Another way then is double click on sidney, to get up his properties box. Then click on the parents button, and you should get an empty properties page (as you have no parents yet). Now in te name field, click and select link existing parent. As before you will get a list of the people, find one of his parents and select them. You will then get the option to link into the existing family.
