I have just migrated from Generations Family Tree and all my records transferred successfully minus sources. So, I now have to reconcile these sources in Family Historian. I have looked at the manual but that seems to assume that you are entering details in a new record from, say, a birth cert. I of course already have the details in the record so how do I point to a source? Can anyone give me a 'noddy' guide to entering the sources or tell me where to look? [confused]

Go to the Sources pane and insert a new source, then go to the individual record, Events tab, click on the event you want to attach the source to, (make sure you have the source part of this screen visible) click on the yellow scroll to add citation and it will take you to the list of sources. Click on the one you want. If necessary you can create a New source at this stage too.
Hope this makes sense.

If you watch the How To for Adding data from a certificate up to the point where the source is created and autosource turned on, you can then use the right click option on the records window or All Tab to add your source to all the events and people that require it.
Or
Once the source is created add it to one event/person and then copy it and paste it to all other events which need it.
Before going too far I would recommend reading the [wiki]glossary:sources[/wiki] entry in the Knowledge base to decide on what source methods you want to use.

Others have said how to enter the sources, but I would want to know why the sources data could not be transfered from Generations to FH.
Is it possible to see a extract from the Gedcom file that Generations produced. It might then be possible to perform some textual trickery on it in Notepad or Wordpad which would save you a lot of typing and re-entering of data (with possible mistakes). At the very least it should then be possible to make FH understand the output of Generations' Gedcom files for future users who migrate from Generations to FH.
If Generations doesn't output it's source information then forget all I said. [frown]
