Printing photos

Post by doppelganger » 03 Mar 2007 14:49

Hi

I want to print old black & white photos to send to relatives. Can anybody suggest the best paper to use?

Also my new printer Canon ip 1200 comes with just a colour ink cartridge. There is an option to add a black ink cartridge. However, I have searched the manual and online help, etc, but can't find how you change the setting to use black ink - do the printers/programmes detect to use black ink. I ask because my old printer seemed to run down my colour cartridge really quick, even when I was only printing black text.

Thanks

It's a shame you got the 1200, the Pixma 4200/4300 has all separate cartridges, and I have found it very good for all sorts of printing.

I you want to print copies and only have access to the 1200, I would send them off to one of the digital printing companies (I use bonus print) and get them to print them, I find the quality that way better than cheap inkjet printers and you have the advantage that the resulting photos are water resisitant. It tends to work out cheaper than printing at home if you are printing less than A4 as well.

If you go the Bonus Print route you can get them send direct and save the double postage.
