Genealogy lingo and jargon busting!

Post by kateabbott » 27 Feb 2007 15:03

Hi,

I'm researching the basics of genealogy software, and was wondering if you could tell me any lingo or jargon that you needed to be explained to you when you first got into genealogy research? For example, what could novices fail to understand from the posts on this forum?

Systems like GEDCOM and phrases like UI are obvious ones, but if you'd like to offer yours up (and what they mean-I'm a novice too!) that'd be wonderful!

Thank you so much, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

'UI' is not really a Genealogy term, it's short for 'user interface' is a computer software development term.

I have been trying to build a glossary in the Knowledge Base, so it's worth looking in there [wiki]glossary:index[/wiki]

There is a definition of GEDCOM in there [wiki]glossary:gedcom[/wiki]
