I've just downloaded the 2.2.1 upgrade and am delighted with the many new features; but I've also stumbled on an extremely odd bug. Some of my place names have been replaced with bits of random text; this became obvious to me when I started going through the new 'Place List.' What is more disturbing is that the gibberish text won't go away. If I replace it with the correct place name, random text shows up again the next time I look at the Place List.
Has anyone else had this experience?

glitch in version 2.2.1?
Hi,
I think the first thing to do is to run the vaildiate option over your file, just to check there is nothing 'wrong' in the syntax of the file. I have used the place changer extensively on both beta and live version of the program with no problems. If you can post exact details of what you are doing I will pass it on to Calico.
When the 'gibberish' is shown what records are linked to it, if you click the records button?

I've run the 'Validate' routine, and nothing unusual shows up.
The problems occur only when I open the Place List window. Then just a handful of places become scrambled. The program seems to pick up small bits of text from other records (not other place names, however) and place them in the place fields. When I click on the right button in the Place List window, however, I am taken to the right record.
If I close the Place List window and correct the place field back to its original text, the correction 'sticks.' But if I leave the Place List window open or open it again later, the place field in that record (and a handful of other records) reverts to its incorrect reading.

I can only think it must be data related in some way. Is your file very large or otherwise unusual, use of accents on places names comes to mind.
In order to go further I would need to pass the problem to Calico.
If you could create a small file which shows the same symptoms, if you could e-mail it to me or direct to Calico they may be able to work out the problem.

I'm very relieved (and slightly embarrassed) to report that there is no bug after all. I was simply using the Place List in the wrong way. (I thought that clicking twice on a place name would take me to a record, whereas it pops that place name in the record then open.)
Again, let me offer my words of praise for the new version. The only small suggestion I have at the moment is that the notes are still in wretchedly small type that's hard on the eyes. I should think it would be possible to enlarge the type when one enlarges the note itself.

If you change the font for the records window, on tools menu, preferences, it will also be used when you open the notes window. I missed that one too.

Thank you, thank you. You've made my day.
