I am trying to create a custom query for individuals born in Surrey before 1838. In addition to the default INDI column I am adding INDI.BIRTH DATE:YEAR and INDI.BIRTH.PLAC:MED using the condition add if and operator is less than 1838 for date and begins with SRY for place. When I run the query the results includes people born after 1838 and also those born in other counties. What am I doing wrong? I previously made a custom query for people born in Norfolk before 1900 which worked fine. When I first ran the new query I got the results for this so I deleted it.

The conditions you are applying will add everyone born before 1838, whether in Surrey or not, and to that list add everyone born in Surrey after 1838. I think you need ADD IF born in Surrey followed by EXCLUDE UNLESS born after 1838.

Patrick's suggestion looks fine.
You may find it easier to use contains SRY on the place name rather than the MED classifier, just in case of any rouge formatted place names.

Thanks for your advice. I now have the results expected from the query.
