I dont know if this is the correct place to ask this question. If not perhaps you can give me some guidance. on the death certificate of one of my relatives the margin has been marked as follows : 'Result of recognition? (I think that's the word) see Reg. of corrected entries vol 2 Page 209 11th Feb 1921' My question is where would I look for this ?? Any help would be greatly appreciated [confused]

I don't the answer, I am afraid, but I will move your question to the Research questions forum.

I suspect that you are looking at a Scottish certificate. The wording will be 'result of precognition'. An RCE entry usualy indicates a death that was unexpected ie the deceased was not under medical care and the certificate is made out before the final details are known. It could be anything from a heart attack to a murder, I have one in my tree that was an accident at work. The Register of Corrected Entries is only available in Edinburgh. There are plans to make it online through Scotland's People but don't hold your breath.

I have a similar note on the death certificate of my great-uncle, who committed suicide (although the certificate doesn't mention this - the Cause of Death box is blank). It's a Scottish certificate.

Thanks for your responses. Yes it is a scottish death certificate. The cause of death is reported as 'Cut Throat' so I suppose it could have been suicide or murder!!But they have also had a couple of attempts at getting the maiden names of his wife and mother right too!? I will try to get a copy of the corrections and see what that brings up!
Thanks again[smile]
